National Geographic Redrew Its World Maps to Reflect Dwindling Arctic Ice

When President Obama unveiled his latest plan to combat global warming by further restricting emissions from the nation's power plants in early August, he made a small, telling comment that didn't get the emphasis it deserved.

"Shrinking ice caps forced National Geographic to make the biggest change in its atlas since the Soviet Union broke apart," the president said in an August 3 speech announcing the plan, an item that likely few people knew about aside from the editors at the magazine itself.

It turns out that President Obama was correct.
